Letter Formation Videos
In Reception, we teach children how to form their letters in the pre-cursive handwriting style. In pre-cursive handwriting, children practise forming their letters with lead-ins and lead-outs, which then ensures the letters start and finish in the correct place ready for when they begin joining their letters later on.
Every letter starts with your pencil ON THE LINE and as we lead-in to each letter we say "enter up...". This is followed by the corresponding rhyme for each letter, taken from our Read Write Inc phonics programme.
Scroll down to watch video demonstrations of how to correctly form all letters from a-z and the corresponding rhymes that go with each. Help your child to practise writing in this style, remembering that capital letters DO NOT have lead-ins.
We hope that you find them useful!
